History
The Faculty of Music and Arts of the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas (Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas) with headquarters at the Tampico-Madero University Center was founded on November 6, 1972 as a Higher School of Music by Professor Manuel Isaac Barroso Ramírez during the rectorial period of Mr. Eduardo Garza Rivas with the approval of the University Assembly on September 23 of the same year. The Higher School of Music was born with the purpose of addressing the need for academic training of professionals in music education. It began academic activities with technical level programs of instrumentalist, singer, composer, pianist and teacher of music school.

In 1981, the curriculum of the Music School Teacher with a Bachelor in Humanities was implemented with duration of nine semesters. By resolution of the University Assembly, on June 2, 1984, the Higher School of Music ascended to the category of Faculty of Music. In 1985 the Bachelor of Musical Arts was implemented with duration of twelve semesters, offering a side exit of eight semesters with the program of Music School Teacher with Bachelor in Humanities.

In 1988, the National Development Plan originated a reform that led to a curricular restructuring of the careers of Music School Teacher and Bachelor of Musical Arts, where the areas of research, education, plastic, performing and musical arts were strengthened.

In 1993 started the Traditional Baccalaureate Plan in Art Education with duration of four semesters and the Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts Education programs, integrated by nine semesters, with a common trunk of Superior Technician in Artistic Education of four semesters.

In 2000, the Mission XXI Plan began with a flexible program that led to the restructuring of the Bachelor's degrees in Music and Artistic Education. In the same year started the Bachelor of Music and Art with duration of six semesters.

In 2005, the Millennium III Plan began by adding some integrated subjects to the University Basic Training Core to the Bachelor's degrees. By resolution of the University Assembly, on December 3, 2014, the Faculty of Music changed its name to the Faculty of Music and Arts “Professor Manuel Barroso Ramírez ”in honor of its founder.

In August 2015, the Knowledge Generation Plan begins with the implementation of the first semesters of the new Bachelor of Music (LM), Bachelor of Arts Education (LEA) And University General Bachelor with Emphasis in Music and Art (BGUEMA). Within the curricular reform the profiles, contents and duration of the curricula of the three educational programs were restructured. In August 2016, the Higher University Technician in Music (TSUM) educational program began.
